History of Nurburgring - 9pm Sunday 3 FebruaryAustralian subscribers to Foxtel are in for a real treat this Sunday night (3 February 2008). At 9pm AEDT they will be broadcasting a 1 hour special titled History of Nürburgring. I’m sure it will be well worth watching and I’ll let you know if it was in a few days time.

Well this show wasn’t what I had hoped for. It featured a lot of great old footage from pre and post-War times, up to the mid 1970s, but it lacked detail. Essentially the show presented a few minutes on various Grand Prix results. There were some interviews with ex-racers, including Tony Brooks, but again, these lacked the substance required to be of intrinsic value. I think it was a case of trying to squeeze too much into a one hour program.

Only briefly was there any specific mention made of the track’s construction and changes over the years and, perhaps, if they concentrated on a smaller timeframe, just pre-War racing for example, then they may have been able to give the subject matter more attention rather than quickly moving to the next piece.

Having said that, some of the footage was truly amazing and when you compare the dangers faced then to what a current day Grand Prix driver deals with it is mind blowing!

I’d recommend watching it if you can get a copy, just don’t expect great things.
