RUF CTR ‘Yellowbird’ – part 1
The RUF CTR, based on the 1987 model Porsche 911 Turbo, was probably the first of their wild creations to gain worldwide notoriety. Due in part, of course, to the extreme video footage of the car lapping the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit with power slides on virtually every corner. Having a top speed in excess of the then current Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 probably helped a bit as well! The car was nicknamed ‘Yellowbird’ by US magazine Road & Track.
I’ll post up some more videos of this car soon, but to whet your appetite, I present this 2 minute clip for your viewing pleasure. Compared to the 996 creation from RUF, this car looks an absolute dog to drive. The steering looks to be very lightly weighted and the gear throws are way too long for a performance car of this ilk. Thank goodness modern day engineering has improved. Mind, it is hard to argue with the spectacular results this car produced.
