1500-1600 update (race start)
During the first hour of racing it was the favourites in the battle for overall victory who were hardest hit by early setbacks.
The Wochenspiegel-Porsche was forced into the pits following an accident and tumbled down the order, leaving the HISAQ squad in car number 22 to assume the race lead.
The #1 Manthey Racing Porsche broke into the top ten, and last year’s winners are racking up some sensational lap times, as much as 20 seconds per lap quicker than its competitors.
The start of the 42nd lap (21.30 hrs) brought with it a head-to-head battle for the lead.
“There were yellow flags or accidents all over the circuit. You had to constantly take care not to overtake under yellow.”
The bouts of dramatic wheel-to-wheel racing at the head of the field continued unabated, sending the main protagonists through a rollercoaster of emotions.
“We’re not taking any risks now and are not pushing quite as hard. After all, our aim is to win the race. We just have to see how things are going hour-by-hour now.â€
Manthey completes the hat-trick
“This hat-trick of victories is the crowning glory of my career as a team boss,†beamed Olaf Manthey
