Nürburgring trip report – The Atlantic crossing
There’s trip reports and there’s trip reports. This one, from AutoWeek‘s Ronan McGrath, will take some beating. Ronan recently took delivery of a 997 Porsche GT3 RS. Okay, that’s not such a big deal. He’s a lucky bastard, for sure, but he’s not alone in having unfettered access to such an awesome car. Ronan is from Canada, eh. Again, not so remarkable, eh. Ronan took delivery of his GT3 RS in Canada. Ahh, so now the penny has probably dropped. Yep, he took his track ready Porker back across the Atlantic into the Fatherland so that he could have his car earn its Nürburgring sticker the best way possible—by driving it around the Nordschleife. This was no show pony parade lap from Ronan either, he put in over 40 laps of the Ring, including an earlier visit to Spa Francorchamps for a few laps to get him in the mood. You can read Ronan’s report over at AutoWeek and I’ve included a few teasers below…
“Three-time Le Mans winner and Nürburgring 1000-km winner Hans Stuck had told me a couple of weeks previously to respect the track. He had just tried an RS there and said that the gear ratios were ideal and that at less than eight-tenths, the car was absolutely predictable. At the limit, a lot of skill would be required to keep things tidy. I would heed this advice.”
