Ever wondered what a sub 3:30 lap would look like?

Stefan Bellof’s 6:11 Nordschleife lap time, set in 1983, stands as a seemingly insurmountable barrier. There will most likely come a time when someone does better the time, which was set in a Porsche 956 sportscar; when, and in what, nobody knows.

In the virtual world, however, Bellof’s record has been smashed to pieces by a no doubt spotty faced kid driving a car that doesn’t even exist. Here, with the magic of the Sony Playstation 3 and Gran Turismo 5, you can see what a sub 3:30 lap might look like. Can you imagine the G-forces that would need to be sustained to go around the Nürburgring at such pace!

The car? A make believe Red Bull X1, dreamed up by master designer Adrian Newey. It has an imaginary turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 good for over 1100kW.

Can what we consider now to be such lunacy, ever have a hope of coming true?!
