N24 trackside report - pt4
Stu Jones: Just finished Friday qualifying and all is good. The car feels fantastic, much better than yesterday. Turn in is great and the brakes sensational. Felt a lot more comfortable out on the Nordschliefe. Weather is also fine and clear which means the top guys are going for glory!
Colin and I just did two laps at about 80% pace and put the car away for tomorrow.
Tony Quinn in his 997 RSR is having a bit of our luck with a gearbox making horrible noises after a few laps of qualifying. So over to Mr Porsche and get a new one. One of the great features of this event is that Porsche has a full complement of spares onsite for the majority of current race models. When it gets wet they do a roaring trade in bumpers and bonnets! I guess if you spent that much on a racecar you would expect a bit of after sales support. Also shows how many Porsches are running and their impact on the event.
As I am typing this qualifying has just finished and the Audi R8’s look to have taken places 3 to 6 which is very impressive. Last year’s winner has qualified second, so looks like will be a great race. Particularly if the Audis can stay reliable, which is always hard in the first year.
Now for the long wait till 4pm tomorrow.
