Mazda3 MPS around the Nürburgring - part 1
December 2nd, 2008 Posted in Mazda, VideoHere’s a not so authorised clip of a Mazda3 MPS lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife on a regular Touristenfahrten day. It’s a good example of how bikes and cars hold their speed in different sections of the track. It’s also a good example of why cars and bikes sometimes don’t mix too well on TF days. While there’s no incidents in this clip, you don’t need a lot of imagination to see how things can go wrong.
If you’re planning your first trip to the Ring, this is a timely reminder to make sure you read the pages in the Safety section of Ben Lovejoy’s website.
Have fun out there, and stay safe.

While nothing went wrong, one guy did wind up on the grass at the 7:55 mark.
It doesn’t take any imagination for me to see what can go wrong. During my 6 laps I saw 1 bike and 4 cars in the Armco. No one was hurt from what I saw, but still you must pay the track its due respect.
Still, 8 min 35 sec is not a bad lap and it was safe and controlled.

Yeah, same, I saw the aftermath of a couple of cars coming together on the day I went, which saw the track closed for about an hour. Throughout the day I spent at the track there was about 4-5 closures and quite a bit of bent metal coming back on flatbeds.

Tough, you monster the bikes into the corners and then the buzz away on the straights. What is the right/wrong response in that situation? Surely it must be frustrating for both cars and bikes.

I think the correct response is to maintain common sense, but often times ego and common sense are mutually exclusive.
The biggest issue for me was how quickly the bikes catch you from behind. You check your mirrors and its all clear, next thing you know you’ve got a trio of Casey Stoners up your juff trying to buzz by!
