Following their successful defence at the Bathurst 12 Hour race on the weekend, Audi Australia has teamed up with Team Phoenix Racing to bring us this in-car footage from Saturday morning qualifying. Christopher Mies is at the wheel. The first lap is a slow warm-up, thankfully, as Mies gets a close look at a couple of our national wildlife icons. After that enjoy the ride as the V10 powered R8 LMS carves up the mountain.
The video gives those not familiar with the Mount Panorama circuit a good introduction as to what the spectacular 6.2km track is like. As with watching videos of filmed at the Nürburgring it doesn’t really offer a full appreciation of the rise and fall of the circuit, at their steepest, they are more dramatic than the Ring.
Like the Nordschleife anyone can drive around Mount Panorama and it’s free! However, there are a number of residences, hotels and wineries which are accessed from the track so a 60km speed limit is in force and regularly patrolled by the local police. Traffic also flows in both directions so opportunities to drive the track at serious speed are limited to closed track sessions.
